The Downs of Pregnancy.....

Everyone talks about the glow, the thicker shinier hair and the smell something a mile away.....but they never really get into the nitty-gritty...the downs of pregnancy. The achy back, the swelling ankles, the constant peeing! but what I would like to talk about today is the dreaded morning sickness....from the constant motion sickness to the hug the toilet for four hours feelings. I didn't have this with my last one, but this one killed me and frankly is still giving me issues.

So I'm looking for remedies, from old family 'secrets' to new age things you read in an article last week....lay it on me. Help me and my fellow mothers out with this horrid morning (all day) sickness!!

Also anyone have funny/unusual symptoms....like dizziness that they also had to deal with and if so what did you do to help you out with those things as well!

Thanks so much. I can't wait to hear from everyone!

ps. please don't think I don't absolutely love being pregnant! I do, I just want to be able to get past the morning sickness. ;)

I've got it Maura. With BOTH of my boys, and even my sisters and cousins do the same thing and all swear it works. We wear whats' called "BioBands".

http://www.biobands.com/

They are a bracelet that you wear that applies pressure under your wrist. I'm NOT KIDDING. Totally worked with both pregnancies. And, it's not like anyone looks at you funny, it's just a bracelet you wear. You can wear them in the shower or swimming, so you NEVER have to take them off. Once I hit the 4 month mark it all went away, but I'd still wear them. Just incase.

I'm sure there are lots of other tricks people do, but I'm serious about this, it's worth the $11 or whatever they cost.

Vitamin B-6 and Unisom (it is a sleeping pill). Take half at night, or if you are really bad, take a full one. I did it with my kids, and I did the presure bands and that is the ONLY way I survived. If I didn't take the unisom I was SO sick that I kept nothing down and ended up in the hospital. It didn't take the yucky feeling away for me becaus I was SO sick, but it made it more managable. I sware by Unisom, and my doctor was the one who told me to take it. The only other thing you can do is talk to your doctor about morning sickness pills. My friend takes them and swares by them, so talk to your doctor and he/she can tell you what is best for you.

P.S. Sorry you have it so bad too. Morning sickness broke me because it was all day, all night (until I started the unisom), and worse it lasted from about a week before the pee stick said I was pregnant until month 5 to 6. It was totally deabilitating. I hope you get over it soon. No fun! No fun at all!! Good luck!

P.S.S. I can't post on your blog... So, I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS on the GREAT news about the gender of your baby!! That is so exciting!!

zofran...saved my life and literally did M's. I was so sick they told me I was close to losing her. I just asked for it as soon as I got pregnant with baby 2 so I wouldn't go through it again. It's heavenly!

I had to keep munchies with me so I could eat something every 90-120 min or so. Keeping something in my tummy for it to work on. That helped immensely when other things didn't.

I'd also recommend Ginger Ale, or ginger pills. Not a cure-all, but it definitely helps. The bubbles in the ginger ale also help. I second the zofran - ask for a prescription from you OB. The off-brand is Ondansetron (or something close to that). I also used the bands that push on your pressure points - I got mine at Walmart and they're called Sea Bands there.

I've been there, friend. Think positive!

I had really bad morning sickness with both my kids. I found that it was much worse if I had an empty stomach. I kept soda crackers by my bedside and would eat a few every time I woke up at night. I also snacked all day long (on healthy things like fruit, whole wheat bread, and veggies) and that really seemed to help.

Sorry you're feeling sick!
